What do people say about Hearthstone Manor?
“My daughter built this place for me.”
Indeed, she did. Susan Schroeder’s daughter, Sandra Bricker, and her husband, Jeff, developed and manage Hearthstone Manor. Sandy had one thought in mind, “Where would my mother be comfortable living when she needs assistance with everyday activities – like meals, dressing, and taking medications – yet continues to want her independence?”
“The food is good. My favorite is the pork and sauerkraut.”
Dining is important at Hearthstone; meals bring people together. The food must be appealing in presentation as well as taste. Hearthstone’s chefs trained in restaurants, and they aim to please the Pennsylvania Dutch palette. When residents tell us that a dish is just the way they like it, we know that we’ve succeeded.
“Hearthstone has become my extended family. When I leave, I know that my mother is being cared for – better than I could care for her at home.”
Trusting your mother or father to someone else is difficult. Will they treat your parent the way you would -- noticing the little things that make a difference to your parent’s comfort? When people refer to us as family, we know that we’re meeting their expectations.
“I was lonely living with my daughter. The best thing about Hearthstone is having friends my age.”
There’s nothing like friends your age. They share similar experiences, memories, interests, and aches and pains. Adult children can do a great deal for their parents, but they cannot be a friend their parents’ age.
“I love it; I’m busy. This is my home now.”
Variety is the hallmark of the activities program at Hearthstone. Mind-teasers,physicalexercise, devotions, crafts, group games, learning experiences, and theme weekskeep Hearthstone’s residents engaged. There’ssomething for everyone.
“I have to check her schedule when I come to visit.”
